I find so much inspiration in my beautiful surroundings of the Lake District, and most of that isn’t just from flowers and nature but the rugged landscape. Mountains, rocks, waterfalls, and tarns surround some of Cumbria’s best wedding venues, so why not let them inspire your cake design?
Your wedding is a great way to show off your unique style as a couple, and there are endless possibilities when it comes to contemporary cake designs. Here are just a few of my favourites…
For a more modern take on the classic tiered cake, try a square design with interesting angles and sharp lines. Small bas-relief embellishments such as tiny leaves add a natural element, while the sugar pussy willow adds height and drama.

If you’re looking for something a little more personal, this deconstructed stone effect cake features a literary quote, so adding romance with the flowers. As a couple you could choose to have a passage from your favourite book or even a poem.

A less traditional take on the classic wedding cake, this design features a clean white semi-naked base with rustic gold details. The mix of both fresh and dried flowers adds a touch of femininity with a modern edge.

Ruffles don’t have to be fussy, my modern take on them contrasts clean, smooth icing with torn paper-style ruffles finished off with a statement sugar rose.

Worried about contemporary wedding cakes not being ‘weddingy’ enough? Adding a few delicate sugar flowers can elevate the design and give it a more romantic feel, such as this design with ethereal wafer paper sails and floating sugar blossoms.

I hope you’ve found some inspiration for your own contemporary wedding cake!
